Interview at USPTO "Sheds" Light on Grooming Tool

The FURminator® deShedding Tool is so unique and effective, you have to see it to believe it. That's why, when Sterne Kessler attorneys were selected to represent FURminator® in an ex partes reexamination, they knew their best shot at winning was to showcase the tool in action.

After years of searching for a reliable grooming tool to safely remove a pet's loose fur, professional groomer Angie Porter and her husband David Porter decided to invent their own. The product was an instant success, and a decade later, the FURminator® deShedding Tool is the most popular grooming tool on the market with millions of loyal users.

The FURminator® deShedding Tool is so unique and effective, you have to see it to believe it. That's why, when Sterne Kessler attorneys were selected to represent the owners of the FURminator® technology in an ex partes reexamination, they knew their best shot at winning was to showcase the tool in action. With the help of Fidos for Freedom, a non-profit organization that provides service and therapy dogs to individuals with disabilities, our attorneys found the perfect candidate for a demonstration. On the day of the reexamination interview, Dazzle the Therapy Dog arrived at the United States Patent & Trademark Office with her owner in tow and a full coat of fur. The FURminator® deShedding Tool worked its magic, impressing both the examiner and Dazzle, whose shiny, deshed coat lived up to her name.

As a result, all original claims were confirmed by the USPTO, guaranteeing the continuing upkeep of many a well-groomed pet. Additionally, Sterne Kessler is pleased to add Fidos for Freedom to its list of organizations supported through charitable donations.
