Although choosing a federally protectable trademark for any product can sometimes prove difficult, the selection of a trademark for pharmaceuticals presents special challenges that go beyond simply registering with the USPTO.  A pharmaceutical trademark must also pass muster with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
