Improving Design Protection in Chinese Patent Law

Last December, China's top legislature, the National People's Congress Standing Committee, approved amendments to China's patent laws. The new laws will come into effect Oct. 1, 2009, and include significant changes to the country’s patent system, including an absolute novelty requirement, a possible roadmap for compulsory licensing and increased statutory damages for infringement.
