IPO Submits Design Patent Customs Enforcement Recommendations to U.S. IPEC
- Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox
Director Tracy-Gene G. Durkin assisted Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) president Richard Phillips with recommendations on several aspects of the “Development of the Joint Strategic Plan on Intellectual Property Enforcement” to the Office of the U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC) in response to a Federal Register notice published June 26, 2012 requesting public input. Her specific contributions focused on customs enforcing design patents as part of this initiative – the IPO urges the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency to promptly divulge information with “IP rights holders regarding detained products.”
The IPO also encourages the U.S. to reach out to foreign entities to ensure trade secrets will be protected, and the comments expose vulnerabilities in the current consolidation methods used. To view the full letter with commentary, click here.
