Program Gives Green Technology Patent Applications the Fast Lane

On December 8, 2009, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) initiated a Green Technology Pilot Program to promote the development of "green technologies" by permitting certain patent applications pertaining to environmental quality, energy conservation, the development of renewable energy resources, or greenhouse gas emission reduction to be accorded special status and advanced out of turn for examination.  In this article, Peter Jackman and Lori Brandes discuss the details and implications of the Pilot Program.
