Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox Named "2017 PTAB Firm of the Year" By Managing Intellectual Property Magazine

  • 03.24.17

WASHINGTON, DC (March 24, 2017) – Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox P.L.L.C., a premiere intellectual property law firm, has been named “PTAB Firm of the Year” by Managing Intellectual Property magazine for the second time since the award was established three years ago. The award recognizes Sterne Kessler’s superior work representing both petitioners and patent owners before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and further established the firm's supremacy in the post-America Invents Act era on matters involving inter partes review, post grant review, derivation and covered business method proceedings.

“We are honored to be recognized again for our work on behalf of clients at the PTAB,” said Michael B. Ray, managing director of the firm. “In the five years since the PTAB was established, it has been a priority for us to leverage our technical expertise, knowledge of the PTO, and litigation experience to produce PTAB wins for our clients, both petitioners and patent owners. The Board has become a preferred venue for handling patent disputes, and our outstanding PTAB team is committed to continuing their excellence in representing clients at that venue.”

In addition to the "PTAB Firm of the Year" recognition, the firm was also short listed in three additional categories featuring the most respected intellectual property firms and individuals in North America. Sterne Kessler was named among the top "IP Specialty Firms" and the best firms for "Patent Prosecution: Northeast." Additionally, Lori Gordon, a director at Sterne Kessler and member of the firm's Litigation and Electronics groups was named among the elite "PTAB Litigators of the Year."

Managing Intellectual Property announced the recipient of the "PTAB Firm of the Year” award and its other "2017 North American Intellectual Property" awards at a ceremony  in Washington, DC yesterday. Members of Sterne Kessler’s Patent Office Litigation team were on hand to accept the PTAB “Firm of the Year” award. Managing Intellectual Property's annual Patent Survey is one of the intellectual property industry's largest and most detailed analyses of the world's leading patent firms. Rankings are based on extensive research that includes client interviews and peer reviews from leading attorneys in the field.

Sterne Kessler has been a leader at the PTAB since the Board was established in 2012, having appeared in more than 600 America Invents Act proceedings. Notably, the firm's attorneys are also thought leaders on the PTAB having recently published Patent Office Litigation -- Second Edition (authored by nearly 70 Sterne Kessler attorneys), as well as a report summarizing the outcomes of the top 10 most important Federal Circuit appeals from the PTAB in 2016.
